Prolog as scripting language?

I know using Prolog as a glue/extension/scripting language is possible and has been done (ie using it the way Lua is used), but can anyone recommend a specific Prolog implementation for this?

Why would you want to do that?

I've found Prolog can be used as a sort of cheap yet powerful and efficient "poor man's SQL".  It can greatly simplify manipulating large tables of data, as opposed to writing database-like containers in C/C++ (why reinvent the wheel?).

Um anyway I found SWI Prolog has a glue-language shared library included in all its installations (libpl.dll on Windows, libpl.a in Linux, etc) so I can now do what I want.

Can you interface it with an SQL database for such effect?
