anyone used this yet? what do you think of it?

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-01 7:08

It's slower to start than CMD...

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-01 7:13

is it superiour to bash?

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-01 7:23

no fscking clue. At my current Power Level, cmd is all I need :)

You clearly need to get your Power Level over nine thousand.

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-01 12:12

Use FAR Manager.

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-01 12:57

$power_level=9001

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-02 6:00

Wohoo, just increase my powerlevel!

Powershell is cool. One more reason not to switch to unix!

I'm a linux guy forced to use windows at work, and I maintain my sanity with rxvt that comes with cygwin. I didn't like the behavior of the generic bash shell that came with cygwin since it relied of cmd.exe. rxvt isn't perfect, but I like it a hell of a lot better than the other options I found.

Windows Powershell code that will iterate over all files in the directory you are in an rename all jpegs containing the string "Rar!" to filename.jpg.rar.

For lulz!

Get-ChildItem *.jpg | ForEach { if ((Get-Content $_) -match [regex]"Rar!") {Copy-Item $_ $_".rar"}}

To put it in a simple way, this is the best shit ever. I wonder how long would I take for me to know about PowerShell's existence if I hadn't seen it here. Cheers OP!

anyways, powershell *kinda* sucks. it's neither a real scripting language, nor a real shell (you can't remote without some hacks, no cool tools like screen etc.) and last I heard it won't even ship together vista.

Not usage samples as in "You can do this and that with Powershell", I've got those. I want the "Hay guys look what I did" kind of usages. Epic usages.

Well, nothing epic from me, I just got it today and messed with it a little. The article >>8 posted gave some interesting insights. In the end, it has a very bash-like feeling which I enjoyed quite a bit. I took a long time, but finally MS gave us something (much) more functional than the ridiculous cmd.

Name: Anonymous 2007-01-12 18:19

this is a horrible excuse for a shell. MS should be ashamed of themselves.

Name: Anonymous 2007-01-12 18:24 (sage)

tcsh > csh > * > ms powershell > cmd.exe > command.com > bash

Name: Anonymous 2007-01-13 5:39

I might even agree to something like that

fit ksh in there too

Name: Anonymous 2007-01-13 9:02

You forgot zsh

tcsh > csh > ksh > zsh > * > ms powershell > cmd.exe > command.com > bash

tcsh < csh < ksh < zsh < * < ms powershell < cmd.exe < command.com < bash
