It's not code. It's what happens when text editors try to read the bytes of memory used by images. As they read the file random bits and pieces map to your character set, so that is what you will see: junk. You wouldn't be able to create a image file the same way, so don't think of it that way. Get a better browser: one that is smart enough not to let you see an images "source code."

Technically yes it does, but IE only has partial support. You won't see an image, but the XML.
I have no problem reading a file in XML. Attempting to read a gif or something as opposed to looking at one, however, is where I'd like to see the line drawn. I just think that browsers should be good enough to know these things.
