which one?

i'm thinking of learning a desktop programming language. i'm decent with a few browser/server based languages, like php and javascript, but i wanna go beyond that.

so what are the pros/cons of ruby and python, and which should i go with?

I once used psyco on a major (read: ~500k) internal app. The best improvement I could get out of it was a miserable 10% improvement.

Maybe you'll get noteworthy improvement on benchmarks, but I have doubts about anything non-trivial.
