Meh, I was hoping at least someone would remember the days of Pepsi, Nuclear Winter, Adrenaline, Anarchy, Hellraiser and Freon. I'm only talking about a little more than a decade ago here... surely someone here was old enough to type back then?

I seriously can't believe no one has yet to remember this...

Think; 1994... AOL 3.0... where some of us programmers got our start (I was in like 5th grade I think). AOL punters, tossers, scrollers, chat bots, etc. were like the beginning for a whole generation of coders. Unfortunately you all let me down, not a single one of you recognizing the forced "lamer"ism in my original post. Thanks.

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-30 3:02

Some of us weren't stupid enough to use AOL in any incarnation.

I used all the free BBSs in my area. There were at least thirty of them, and I lived in a very small town indeed.

AOL/Prodigy/CompuServe could go take a shit in the lake.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-03 14:37

Anyway, can you recommend some killer apps for my compy?

Opera sucks sure there's an ebuild for opera but it just get dropped to /opt, it's statically linked, and it's CLOSED SOURCE, which means that it is a BINARY package.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-05 10:07

because you have read all the source code of your kernel, applications and compiler before doing anything? and how did you compile your compiler? you did a bootstrap before I hope? and don't tell me about gentoo, it doesn't increase the speed of your applications, it just wastes a few hours of your time to compile useless shit that will gain 5ms when you launch it.

I had a gentoo-lover friend once, he would spend 2 hours every day to compile the new stuff that was available on gentoo. everything from ls to ln would be recompiled asap (who know? maybe there's a huge bug, memory leak or security hole in ls!!!)

he never understood that his computer was slower than mine because he could do nothing for 2 hours everyday, I hate gentoo-lovers!

don't diss ls
ls is the best program ever
it kick's dir's ass

Why didn't he start the compilation before he went to bed?  That way you'd end up with a somewhat outdated (Gentoo is known for being behind super-bleeding-edge-and-verrrry-unstable distros such as Debian Testing (DO NOT USE THIS!!!!!!!! IT IS VERY UNSTABLE JUST LOOK AT THE NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)), blazing and secure system!

If I had 2 hours a day to be a Gentoo ricer, I'd consider getting an extra job and buying blazing edge hardware with the extra money. Pays off better than -O3 -malign-double -funroll-loops etc.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-07 3:12

My gentoo is liek instant on. I get massive-critical-raging hardons every time I emerge new versions and recompile my whole system to avoid reverse dependencies. vroom-vroooom!!!1!
