Learning Perl and CGI

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-26 23:56

I'd consider myself a PHP guru. I'm slowly taking up python as well. Now, I need to learn Perl & CGI to edit and continue working on some web applications which are about to be assigned to me.

I bought PeachPit's "Perl and CGI for the World Wide Web" by Elizabeth Castro, but that basically defines the types of variables, shows how a param function works (barely) and that's it. The book ends. Most definitely a waste of money. Yet, there's almost no other books on perl / CGI that I can find to purcahse.

So my question to you guys here at /prog/ is, how do I learned Perl and CGI for use in web applications?

didn't you hear?

Python is the new Perl

Yep, that's why I've already jumped the gun to start learning python. However, as I noted, I'm going to be working on a web app for a company that's already been worked on for a good amount. That'd entail thousands upon thousands of lines being rewritten into a different language, and I doubt they're going to want to go for that...
