Learning Ruby

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-08 16:50

So I'm learning Ruby using Why's Poignant Guide (http://poignantguide.net/ruby/), it seems really good so far, but I'm finding it kinda tough.

Any suggestions for help oh Ruby-loving /programming/?

I'm so wapanese I know ruby.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-08 18:16

I suggest droping Ruby completely and taking up Python. It's THE Enterprise Solution for your needs.

Don't listen to him!  He's gone totally Pythonic!

To be honest, I think the Pognant Guide isn't all that hot. There's far too much fluff in there.

I like this the most. It's short and to the point: http://www.ruby-doc.org/docs/UsersGuide/rg/

Aye, that's the best one (and thanks for the link, I have been trying to remember where it was located for months!)

Good fucking luck with that.
Ruby is a terribly advanced programming langauge.
I suggest learning C++ or VB if you already haven't.

Ruby is advanced but it's actually much easier to use than C++.

Sneaker Pimps were a British trip-hop band formed in Hartlepool, England in 1994. They are best known for their first album Becoming X (released in 1996) and particularly the singles "6 Underground", "Spin Spin Sugar", and "Tesko Suicide" from the same album. They took their name from an article the Beastie Boys published in their Grand Royal magazine about a man they hired to track down classic sneakers.

The band's founding members were Liam Howe and Chris Corner, who then recruited Kelli Dayton (formerly of Lumieres, now recording under the name Kelli Ali) for vocal duties and long-time friend Ian Pickering to provide lyrics. After the first album, the band felt that demos for the second album (on which Corner provided the guide vocals) better suited his voice, especially in regard to the more raw, personal quality of the lyrics. Following the promotional tour for Becoming X, Kelli was dismissed from the group, and Corner became the singer.

'Atari Teenage Riot' (abbreviated 'ATR') is a German digital hardcore group formed in Berlin in 1992. The name was taken from a Portuguese Joe song entitled "Teenage Riot" from the album "Teen-age Riot", with the word 'Atari' added as an Atari ST computer was used to create compositions. Highly political, they fused anarchist, anti-fascist and anti-Nazi views with punk vocals and the newly emerging techno sound called digital hardcore, which is a term band member Alec Empire used as the name of his record label.

Crystal Castles are known for their chaotic live shows and their lo-fi home productions. The duo released many limited EPs between 2006 and 2007, and two eponymous albums in 2008 and 2010 to widespread critical acclaim. Their debut album was included in NME's "Top 100 Greatest Albums of the Decade" list at #39.

Hecate (born Rachael Kozak) is the stage name of American-Austrian experimental industrial and breakcore musician, who resides in Berlin, Germany. She takes her name from the Greek goddess of sorcery Hecate. Kozak uses sexuality as a major topic in her music (such as in the tracks "Hecate Jacks Off The Jackal" and "The Magick Of Female Ejaculation"), and has a heavy focus on death and the occult. With over thirty releases, she has become a notable female producer in the harsher genres of electronic music. Kozak is perhaps best known for her collaborations with prolific electronic artist Venetian Snares (Aaron Funk), creating the album Nymphomatriarch entirely from recordings of she and Funk having sex, during a two-week tour in 2003. She is also involved with video production, graphic arts and writing. Since 1996, Kozak has managed her own record label Zhark International, has traveled the world extensively to perform, and became involved in the extreme metal scene, particularly industrial black metal. She eventually formed Treachery, a black metal group.

In 2011, Hecate released a 12" of her remixes on Ad Noiseam, and a CD and 12" release which features her vocal work on Bong-Ra's side-project, White Darkness. Kozak was cast by Daniel Vrangsinn, the producer of many TNBM bands, to star in his solo full length video project, Taboo.

Find 99 problems for prolog and implement them in Ruby.
Get golfscript, look how it works, masturbate to its fabulous code generation

class Gtype...
    '+-|&^'.each_byte{|i|
        eval'def %c(rhs)
            if rhs.class != self.class
                a,b=coerce(rhs)
                a %c b
            else
                factory(@val %c rhs.val)
            end
        end'%([i]*3)
    }

implement solutions for project-euler and you'll be good.

C++ has a completely different purpose than Ruby, and VB should not be used by anyone.
