I've been meaning to learn Ruby but I'm still spending my time getting a grip on Common LISP.

Is it easier to write programs which make system-level API calls in Ruby than it is in Common LISP, or are Ruby interpreters equally stubborn?

Why are Perl people so obsessed with use strict? You're writing for a high level dynamically typed language, and one that's particularly messy and hacky, and you want to declare your variables?

It is a spell checking with the symbol table. If you mispelled something or called it slightly different you'll notice. In ruby this is a very common mistake.
