I know writing extensions to Ruby in C is really easy at least. If you are lucky there might be one already available for you to download.

Why are Perl people so obsessed with use strict? You're writing for a high level dynamically typed language, and one that's particularly messy and hacky, and you want to declare your variables?

It is a spell checking with the symbol table. If you mispelled something or called it slightly different you'll notice. In ruby this is a very common mistake.
