All languages are suck, but some are more suck than others.
If you pick the wrong suck, you'll feel needless pain, and sometimes a whole lot of it.

Clearly some languages are worse than others. For example COBOL is worse than every other language that wasn't specifically designed to give you nightmares (ie. we're not counting shit like Brainfuck).
If some languages are worse, that implies that some languages must be better.

The big deal is some languages' purpose is to make Sun fat and fill the "industry" with overcomplicated bullshit and "best practices" that make your life unhappy if you have to make bread that way, as your managers, usually stupid, read about these enterprise business professional object oriented best practice industry standards. Also breed a horde of "professional certified consultants" who are absolutely useless and write shit code one has to fix.

>>1 There is a language called MPD that we were forced to learn when we were studying concurrent programming. The ONLY purpose of that language is to be used in an academic setting by academic people. I guess that makes me agree with your point, but I still hate the language :)

When you use Java and its associated frameworks, all you're doing is painting yourself into a corner, losing all ability to realize there are OTHER, BETTER ways to solve problems, relying instead on some consultant to jizz all over your face.
I have to work with these kind of people; what is a simple matter for everyone else instead involves badly reinventing everything in a flaky way. Then you find out you can't do something because the round about-go-round-the-world-instead reinvention doesn't support it. whoop.

Programming is the magic of these modern times. The art of manipulating machinery that processes information. Ask any random fool on the street and it's all black boxes and unknowables to them.

Yes, its lack of many types of syntactic sugar leaves rather a bitter taste in my mouth.

Clearly certain languages are superior in certain situations.

no language is more superior.
Except for The ABC Programming Language.
