Eclipse is quite possibly the worst java ide ever conceived. More like over glorified notepad with useless appendages pasted on

A code editor not using fixed width fonts by default?

... It could only happen with Java. I bet Java certified engineers can't tell the difference.

you clearly have no idea.

quiet mindless eclipse certified fanboy.

NetBeans is just as useless but at least it sucks less. On the downside you have to put up with all the jizz Sun and java.net spend all day spooging it over with.

IDEA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NetBeans > Eclipse

I tried NetBeans once. It was fucking unusable. It would become unresponsive every 10 minutes while it paused for garbage collection. This would take 9-10 minutes, leaving me 0-1 minutes in every 10 to actually do shit.

Lol Javur. Is it just me, or Java's GC is one of the worst out there?

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-29 12:54

I like how you guys have never used it.

I like how you haven't used any decent software (hint: nothing with the Sun logo in it)

I felt NetBeans running idle overnight once. It crashed.
NetBeans is so fucking unresponsive, its code completion pops up after you've finished the line and fucking kills everything you just typed.

Profiling the garbage collector is fun! It's like an endless race to try an clear up just a few MB.

Sun's app server is so awesome, it only takes 200MB+ just to start with absolutely no applications loaded. Then there's the useless and memory sucking watchdog. Then on Solaris 10 you'll have another thingo service sucking up a couple hundred MB after a few hours. 4GB servers aren't recommended, they're required. And guess which is the most expensive part of a Sun server?

Then there's all the times it randomly dies, craps out under load, takes forever to start, etc, etc, etc

why not websphere? i hear ibm has integrated support/toolkit for that kinda shit. personally, i'm still a nub on tomcat/jboss. company can't afford real stuff.

If it's a "J2EE" (or JEE now, hah) server, expect lots of suck. WebLogic and JBoss are probably the least sucky of them.

Sun gets used for only 1 reason: Politics.
Sun is years behind everyone in technology, including their "new" T1 (tip: get opterons now instead or wait for the next-gen pentiums, once you cut through the bullshit on the front and understand how and why cpus are built the way they do, you'll find that the T1's design is in fact, horrible.), their "most advanced operating system" Solaris 10, is also on a similar level of bullshit. If "most advanced" means pre-Win2k, then sure.

Let's not even get started on their horrible usability and maintanence, the worthlessness of Sun "certified" engineers, etc.

Sun is beginning to talk about implementing self-maintaining and configuring software; stuff the rest of the world has had since the last decade.
