Fails for not getting it

I'd say Java, it's a well thought out system:
1. Sun creates ugly, complicated, overengineered, obnoxious language and API and offers lots of certifications and services
2. With the money they make, Sun pays for advertising on shitty PC magazines, the dumbest the target audience the better.
3. Managers, who are stupid, read "Java is what you should use, it's the industry standard, and it's full of best practices, and of course it's object oriented so it's better!" in these magazines, and obey it because an advertisement in a stupid "how do I opened MSIE" magazine must be good advice.
4. Managers start their Java projects and hire Java programmers.
5. Projects go on foreeeeeeeever.
6. PROFIT

Only flaw is, the language sucks so much I don't want to profit from it even if I could. I'd end up hating my job, and I love it so far and plan on working on this for many years.

What is your job btw?

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-24 9:50

Apparently there are programmers who like, nay, love Java.

I simply cannot understand that. What the fuckity fuck?

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-24 10:26

BufferedReader foo = new BufferedReader(new InputStream(new JavaHatesYou(new FuckOffAndDie(new ForTheLoveOfGodLetMeJustReadTheFile(new File(”filename.txt”)))))))));

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-24 10:29

File.open("file.txt") do |file|
    file.read()
end

Ahh, I love Ruby, even the filenames are shorter.

I've never spoken to a single person who doesn't hate Java. Perhaps they spend all their time engaging in Best Practices (TM) and don't have time for The Internets?

Yes, they (zomg) exist. They're are the kinds of people that can't differentiate a directory from a database, what purpose something is and isn't useful for, pay no attention to the quality of work, nor are they capable of rational independant thought. Which means they'll simply suck down anything a buzzword generating consultant sells.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-24 15:04

PHP: file_get_contents('a.pl');
Python: for a in open('a.c', 'r'):

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-24 15:05

Er, replace a.pl and a.c with the file name. I was just trying the minimum code to do that in every language I know.

Which IDE do you recommend? Jcreator sucks!

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-24 19:40

The question is best paid programmers. This implies either the programmer who gets the most, or the best average salary.
Hardly any of you have actually tried to answer the question instead you talk about the merits of java. Totally off base.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-24 20:11

Programmers that get paid alot?! Unpossible!
Reroll as a buzz word generating consultant.

It's pretty simplistic. You won't be able to make huge things with it, but it's nice for getting started on programming, or doing stuff with physics.

Yes, necessary evil.  The world is full of governments and organizations who are too cheapskate to upgrade their infrastructure after 35 years.

The only thing worse than COBOL is getting headaches from the wall of whirring tape reels in the same room

It all comes down to what the next big thing is in the world of programming.

Right now, I think a programmer has the most potential for making a lot of money by making an AJAX application for a startup company.

So, my answer is javascript.

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-24 11:04

hahah startups.. ahahah AJAX ahahaha WEB SHIT hahahah

Look he asked for a high paying language, not one where you will get a job but get paid crap for it.

Name: sage 2007-01-03 16:56 (sage)

Highest pay I ever saw was an Oracle fixer who could find out why your databse was slow. Thousands of dollars per day.

Then again, I just paid an electrician $1,500 for 2 days work and half a dozen roofers $8,000 for 3 days work.
