Hi, I have two almost identical machines running windows2000 with the same updates service packs etc
In task manager, one of them has "winlogon.exe" in all lowercase letters, the other has "WINLOGON.EXE" in all uppercase letters
Is this normal? Which is the normal capitalization for this process?
Does the all caps one indicate that process has been replaced by a trojan or something like that? If I make a checksum of each should they be identical?
Any help or advice would be appreciated

Stop using Internet Explorer. That's a trojan.

I don't use Internet Explorer, I've read about the Winlogon.exe process which is necessary for windows to run, just the case being different is strange...
shouldnt process capitalizations be the same on every installation of the same operating system

Heh, people still run Win2k? =D

They still support it, and it doesn't suck like ME. Why not?

If I used Windows I'd use 2k. It's the best of the bunch. Of course that's not saying much, but at least it doesn't have XP's bunchocrap slowing everything down.

Run an antivirus. You should have only one. Mine is all lowercase BTW.

So? It's the less bloated stable codebase. WinXP is Windows 2000 + bloat. (zomg but it has a kewl interface lol) (you can get that for Win2K too BTW)
Windows XP is just as good if not better than Windows 2000, but Windows 2000 isn't a bad choice just because Windows XP is around. It's all about which you want to use (or if for some God forsaken reason you need Windows 2000 to do something that can't be done on XP).

Windows XP is just as good if you're insightful enough to know how to disable all the shitware it comes with so you end up with Windows 2000 with a couple improvements.
I can't wait until Windows Vista comes, though. People are gonna go apeshit over it, because it has Windows 2003 code AND has more GOOEY features. People are gonna fight and bitch over it just like this for AGES.

Could the ALL CAPS installation be installed on a FAT32 partition? Are both installations installed from the same CD?

Here's something interesting I've observed on an XP SP3 system: Running task manager as a normal user or even the administrator the process names are in mixed or lowercase, but when running as SYSTEM, they're all UPPERCASE.
