Yao. Does anyone know of any good primer material for working with microcontrollers? Specifically the ubiquitous 16C74(5). I want to use it for a scratch made USB peripheral.

The manual. I've worked with a couple microcontrollers, and all the information I ever wanted was in the technical manual.

Depending on the manufacturer you can often order these in for nothing (or very little).

Don't forget to read the errata too.

Why is there no Universal Parallel Bus?

OP probably meant PIC16C745, what with the USB and all.

Pins are expensive and more difficult to make go fast.
