We love Delphi programming.

Delphi rox e.e

I used Delphi a long time ago. When I looked at the source code I'd written, I could still understand it easily.
In that, it's a better language than C by far.

But can you write an MPI program for my Unix cluster with Delphi? No, that's why most of its eye-candy GUI features are useless. If you like GUIs and windows, write Objective-C apps on MacOS X.
What is the REAL advantage of using Delphi, Borland Builder or all thoses programs factories?
6 Name: Anonymous : 2005-02-04 21:56 (sage)
Prototyping perhaps.
7 Name: Anonymous : 2005-02-05 11:10 (sage)
Prototyping is good but all these kind of compilers increases the number of problems if you need to port a program from one machine to another, unless you have written cleanly separated modules AND have access to a Pascal compiler on every other OS.
8 Name: Anonymous : 2005-02-06 05:10 (sage)
Last I checked, you're not concerned with portability when prototyping. Or were you commenting in general?
The real advantage of Delphi is getting something done quick. Sometimes that's all that counts.
9 Name: deitarion : 2005-02-23 23:37
That's what they say about Visual Basic but it doesn't make it any better. I'd give Delphi a try but I just sorta skip the prototyping by converting prototype into product whenever possible. (Usually by prototyping in the target language, hopefully something like Python or Ruby. Perl and Java are pains and it's too much trouble to prototype in C/C++)

Portability is a waste of time. It's not like Lunix people want to pay you for your work.

delphi is the best app around for creating programs FAST.
plus pascal is crushingly easy to learn...
even for the n00bs...

You can probably do that with Freepascal (
http://www.freepascal.com). It supports most Delphi code, it's not hard to migrate..

Yeah then ask Tuxgames.
The problem is the market is too small to be a porter AND publisher.

Lewl, Kylix and Lazarus is for Linux. So you can easly port your Delphi apps to Linux, Though WIN API will not work for Linux ;)
but you can easly use your Indy coded Text messenger :)

Delphi's great for people who are too insecure to use VB for rapid app development.

VB's great for people who hate programming and themselves.

Pascal/Delphi syntax actually looks more confusing to me than C syntax.
For rapid prototyping, why not use C#?

I worked for a year on VB (before .NET that is...)
Then.. i discovered Delphi...
I worked 4 years on Delphi5, and it was very satisfying. Lots of free (as in free beer) libraries, well structured base libraries, great help system, and it was fast!
I don't know how is Delphi those years, but i heard that modern VB is very good
I would certaintly buy a product that does with Ruby or Perl6 something like Delphi did with Object Pascal.
