The Republicans keep proving again and again, they'd rather allow the country burn to the ground (even set fire to it themselves) then allow Obama one single victory. Now it's at the point that they are holding our government hostage to prevent the funding of a program that was signed into law years ago, declared constitutional by the Supreme Court, and that the Republicans tried to repeal FORTY-TWO TIMES and failed each and every time. Nevermind the fact that the Affordable Healthcare Act (AKA Obamacare) was something they came up with in the first place as an alternative to single-payer universal healthcare!

They are simultaneously insisting the shutdown is no big deal (FOX News keeps calling it a government 'slimdown') because they don't want the public to blame the Republicans for what is happening. But at the same time, they are blaming Obama and insisting that the shutdown wouldn't be happening if he'd just capitulate and give them what they want. Yes, they are actually claiming that the shutdown is no big deal and that Obama is destroying the country with the shutdown at the same exact time.

Obama urges Congress to ditch politics of crisis
The US Congress must stop stumbling from crisis to crisis and join together to create jobs and get things done.
That was what President Barack Obama said yesterday in his weekly radio address.
Speaking just two days after Congress reached an 11th-hour accord to end a 16-day government shutdown and avert a debt default, the president said lawmakers have little to be proud of.
He said: "At a time when our economy needs more growth and more jobs, the manufactured crises of these last few weeks actually harmed jobs and growth."
The provisions of the last-gasp bill have raised fears that another round of Washington-style brinkmanship and dysfunction may not be far off.
The compromise plan hashed out in the Senate and passed by the House funds government only until Jan 15 and extends US borrowing authority until Feb 7.
Mr Obama added: "And it's understandable that your frustration with what goes on in Washington has never been higher."
He specified three areas where his Democrats and Republicans can work together productively.
He said these were coming up with a budget that promotes both economic growth and fiscal responsibility, immigration reform to get millions of undocumented foreigners out of the underground economy and paying taxes, and a farm bill to help rural communities. - AFP.
