It's unfortunate, but rioting gets far more attention than peaceful protests and has farther reaching memetic effects. I doubt for example that military conscription via the draft would have ended after the Vietnam War had every single protest been peaceful.

It seems an unusual choice of words. I'm not going to argue semantics, I will just say I prefer to use the term "objectivity". An objective perspective when it comes to judging people and cultures.
