The planet is mighty fucked in some ways yet is still - at current - relatively intact. the problem is the lagg of what we do with how the planet reacts. we dont understand the planet even with all the science. When we assume its our God given right to do as we please like ''there is already gas huer - so ...more gas is fair enough'' - Manager at a coal power station, this is the problem.

Anything you can imagine (within the known laws of physics) can be achieved. 7billion people. Problem is we see a resource we use a resource. i used to think when i was like 12 'what if in a hundred years they can use crude oil to get like 100 more energy' - probably wrong but think of what we put in phones TVs, tablets, satellite's Landfill... many previous metals - rare earth elements. Also what of all the wood we've used and not re planted across the globe. We have crafted our reality and you want to bring down at current the only know life, then skip out to some rock...

How ironic will it be if we could only send one ship when we leave because we used so much valuable materials?

There are many different avenues for research that will in turn aid each other, for instance miniaturization aided computing, in turn computing allowed us to code the genome and genetic science is advancing rapidly in tandem with nanotechnology. We might not be whizzing around in starships like in star wars and star trek but we are advancing rapidly in areas we could not have predicted.

In order to be a part of this you really need to commit yourself to a field of engineering or science and do that shit properly, remember that the best way to succeed is to keep pushing your limits until you fail, you have to fail to succeed. Failure is just information, once you have that information you can figure out what went wrong and improve, there is no point throwing a hissy fit over it when that is what you must do to become a pro.

Abso-fucking-lutely correct. Even if fossil fuels disappeared tomorrow, after the transition period, we would still have hydro/solar/wind power and still be several times more productive per person than a medieval peasant. Science has changed the world forever and anyone with the least bit of sense should recognize it's importance.

That is a productive avenue for advancement, telecommunications satellites are already up there and the heavens have yielded some important scientific data, however we must factor in economics and it still takes an enormous amount of energy to send shit up there and we need to focus on improving things here on the ground to the point where space resources are more valuable and space industry is more affordable, I think nanotechnology, computing and genetics will be the most productive, we will advance quicker, then when these areas have been done to death we will have more resources to expend on space exploration.

Generally speaking, yes, our culture tries too hard to deglorify seeking immortality so that we don't feel too bad about our inevitable death. May be I'm splitting hairs but I wouldn't describe it as a "right" though.
