I estimate that the middle class controls 30-50% of the economic power in the country, we're already familiar with democracy, liberty and so forth.

The rest is controlled by a plethora of different power groups, not by a secret society as many conspiracy theorists imagine, these groups range from drugs barons to soft drinks company executives.

Typically each group has a leader but no one rules alone, it takes a lot of time to manage things and humans like free time, we are also as helpless as a baby for 1/3 of our adult lives, like generals they need staff to take over administrative duties and perhaps bodyguards. So we have an inner circle of critical administrative staff, sometimes leaders will maintain an outer circle of loyal personnel who are given minor tasks and occasionally brought into the inner circle for a while, these aren't really strict definitions, groups range from stalinist autocrats, oligarchs who have merely selected one of their own as a figurehead all the way to loosely affiliated businessmen who compete otherwise but have joined up to support a new tariff, groups range in levels of power from small businesses run by people who straddle the middle class to corporate CEOs, politicians and all those stereotypical powerful people.

That all said, most of the economic power is in the hands of individuals of influence in government and medium and large sized businesses and groups usually consist of CEOs and their executives or major politicians, appointees and entourage.

Don't want to split hairs but capitalism is by definition any system in which private ownership of the "means of production" is widespread, it doesn't go into specifics which we need to do here to understand what the "system" is and what's "broke".

Capitalism in the form of individuals being allowed to act autonomously without constant bureaucratic oversight is not the problem. The reason the economy is failing is not because the professional engineers and managers who run medium sized businesses involved in complex scientific fields are allowed equity.

There have been bailouts in the past, the difference is that these were businesses left in the dust by technological advances or major economic events, what we are looking at now are major financial institutions being bailed out.

Well, first order of the day, of course, is monitoring the world news, which we control. Sifting out the actual news, deciding what to let the masses know about, and what to promote takes up a lot of time. Most of it can be delegated, but it is necessary for the elites to take an overall view.
I myself spend a lot of time monitoring the internet for potential problem news. I do have a team working on it as well, but there's nothing like a hands-on approach, if you know what I mean. Subtlety is important.
"Ordinary" is not really a word I could apply to any day, since there are always crises to be monitored and dealt with. Running the entire world and keeping track of different allegiances is tiresome, especially since we are usually on both sides of any conflict, so as to be in the driver's seat either way it may fall out. The meetings are endless!
On the bright side, our meetings usually entail lots of debauchery, entertainment, and good food.... but since our area of business is really infinitely vast, we don't get to spend as much time enjoying them as you might think. Pretty much the kids and wives have a blast, we have a laugh or two, and then it's right down to business.

Really, /newpol/ and /lounge/ are the only places where I can let my hair down and  be myself. Although in some ways I exist in anonymity, being a member of the secret elite, the complete anonymity afforded here is quite a relief.
