* Slavery was extremely common in Africa.

* Most slaves coming into America were sold by Africans.

* Free slaves owned slaves too.

So... slavery has nothing to do with the white man keeping the black man down. ANOTHER myth busted! I fucking hate the educational system around here.

If criticizing instances of slavery in the past can't be applied to Mesopotamian civilizations because it happened in the past, then the same can be said of criticizing the United States for its instances of slavery in the past.  If your argument is "those Mesopotamian civilizations don't exist anymore" then your priority is not enlightenment or progress before all else, it is the generation of shame and a feelings of superiority.

And, moreover, Mesopotamia is not a nation; it is a region of the world, where people still live, and many of those who live their still have blood-relation to those who lived there many years ago.  If that is the criteria by which we can criticize people living in the United States today, even those who had nothing to do with the past slave-trade practices or the discomfort of the civil rights era, then we can still criticize the "Mesopotomians."
