Today's Italy increasing resembled Russia during the Yeltsin years: A country marked by an exodus of capital, shortage of credit, and inflexible economic structures. Mario Monti's government is looking at a difficult future.

Except that this is all "paper wealth". The real wealth - the energy and infrastructure - is left in a very sad state.
