Do we need the USSR back?

Capitalism has not performed that well (to put it politely) over the past 20 years.

Is it really just a coincidence that in the early 1990s the USSR fell apart?  Or does capitalism need some real competition (alternative) in order to work at its best?

If the USSR were back we'd pour billions into researching starships, with a  global capitalist hegemony the capitalists are free to invest in biological immortality and transhumanism and maybe commercial space travel later.

China and Russia have adopted a lot of free market ideas. They don't waste a lot of money on unnecessary social programs that don't produce results. As such, they are showing that a directed and controlled free market is the best system.
