Why is your employer required when donating to a presidential candidate?

To keep corporations or individuals from circumventing the contribution limits by using the names of employees to disguise excessive donations. If too many people from the same corporation donate to a particular candidate, it raises a red flag to investigate for possible campaign finance law violations.
