why africa is poor and america is rich

There were several ancient and early medieval civilizations in East Africa that were more advanced than the Aztecs and Incas.
For some reason, they didn't colonize less advanced regions in Africa (like say the Roman Empire did) which is a shame, colonization is good, it spreads technology to more primitive regions, and Africa would have benefitted from being colonized in ancient times.
