Should the Burqa be banned?

Name: Anonymous 2010-07-25 7:56

Some argue that he state shouldn't dictate to us what we should wear no matter how stupid. Doing so is taking away our liberty. We should have ability to criticise people for wearing them however.

What if a religion sanctioned slavery?
In the US, not allowed by way of the Thirteenth Amendment.
The BURQA is a form of slavery it is an outward sign that men OWN women
If the woman has consented to such and is not found to be forced by her husband to wear a burqa due to religious reasons and whatnot, then there should be no reason for it to be a problem.
just as the rediculous looking headresses that the FLDS women wear says I'M A SEX SLAVE TO MY HUSBAND.
Same as above, if the woman knowingly consents to it and has no problem with it then it is not a problem.
all of that shit should be banned because no person has the right to control another's free will -- not even in the name of Islam or FLDS.
That's not the view of maintaining and preserving a free society. You start banning those, then where does it stop? Then you start banning speech because it offends, then you start banning this or that, then it comes to a point where people have to walk around egg shells to avoid being thrown in jail for something they've said/done/advocate/believe in.
