Olympics

Does anyone else not support the Olympics?
I mean, there are people starving in the world, not to mention all the homeless/starving people right here in Canada. And yet we're spending millions and millions on a sporting event. I'm not saying all sporting events are bad, it's just that this one seems a bit excessive. It'd be fine if it wasn't so expensive, that money should be used to improve the world somehow, not support a dick measuring contest between countries.
And any time I tell someone that, they look at me like I just said Hitler was a good guy.

The resources spent on the Olympics would do exactly ZERO for starving babies in Africa or whatever stereotype you're protesting for, OP.

What those people need is infrastructure, stable democratic government, and education, not another handout. We've been throwing supplies at them for decades and it has only made things much, much worse. The entire continent is violent, corrupt, and unstable. Every time you turn around, there's another coup. The only way Africa is going to improve is if the African people stand up and start trying to make a difference.

Concerning homelessness, despite what some politicians would have you believe, you can't fight it directly. Not effectively, anyway. Homelessness naturally declines in a healthy economy.

On a somewhat related note, while food security is still a serious problem, our current level of global food production could feed the planet several times over. More people are actually overweight than undernourished.
