question about Haiti earthquake

Hay guise!

Seeing as how we've been told there was a magnitude 7+ earthquake in Haiti, and seeing as how Haiti and the Dominican Republic are side by side sharing the tiny island of Hispaniola which is only a few miles across--in fact, Haiti only occupies the little nub at the western end of an island only a couple hundred miles long, is any of you wondering why we aren't seeing anything on the televitz telling us about the poor suffering Dominicans?

Why do you suppose that is?

Haiti very poor
make a house out of garbage and crap
live in it with a family of 6
earthquake comes and house fall down
you are all dead

Dominican neighbor made his house out of brick so when earthquake shook and shook, house still standing
Dominican neighbor is also on the western half of island.  Earthquake epicenter was to the north-east.
