Iran's a pretty paranoid nation. They have also arrested Americans who have also hiked into their territory.
They treated the British sailor's pretty well though, even though they were detained. I guess to feel the full brunt of Iranian paranoia you have to be either Israeli (not necessarily Jewish, as Iran does have a Jewish population), American, Foreign Military, or Local Dissident. I think local dissidents get it worse though, as the article in the recent Newsweek revealed.
Iran ranks up there with China, N.Korea, India, Israel, and Saudi Arabia for abuses against their own citizens.
