It's not that communism doesn't work, or capitalism, democracy, anarchy or any of the other systems we've evolved or designed for governance; it's that people don't work. While many anthropologists have seen fit to begin referring to us collectively as homo sapiens sapiens, the truth is that most humans continue to fail the simple test for this distinction. Most people continue to act like animals. They act more on what's in their stomachs and pants than what's in their heads. Sure they talk a good game, but when it comes down to it, they have no integrity, and choose their comfort over their ideals. It's why it's said that we're always three meals from revolution, instead of one idea. Once most people are able to put our ideals and integrity above everything, we will be able to act like true homo sapiens sapiens. Then just about any system of governance will work efficiently. And communism is the most efficient. And it has already been proven to work well in small societies. In fact all small societies were always communist. Though one might argue that tribal societies were small monarchies or "meritocracies", they were all about share and share alike, and "each according to his abilities".
