There hasn't been a good president since Warren G. Harding.  That's what the US needs right now; a return to normalcy

There hasn't been a good president since Andrew Jackson.

Fixed.

normalcy

Is that even a word?

yes

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-01 22:15

ask yourself, could you do any better?

I could.

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-01 23:13

I could do better by vetoing all pork.

Too bad the jews would have me assassinated or impeached.

Impossible without a line item veto.  Though the pun was remotely amusing.

"I too have been a close observer of the doings of the Bank of the United States. I have had men watching you for a long time, and am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the Bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the Bank and annul its charter I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I have determined to rout you out and, by the Eternal, (bringing his fist down on the table) I will rout you out."

Spoils system?

Spoils system.

This is what they used to call it in 19th Century US politics.  Every politician who got an office high enough that he was able to appoint people, filled every office he could with his friends and family, no matter whether any of them knew anything or could carry out the duties of the position, though it certainly made a lot of them rich from graft and bribery.

"To the victor go the spoils."  The spoils system.

Teddy Roosevelt was the last truly decent president. I also admire Jackson and several other 19th century presidents, back when the US actually was a genuinely functional, modern republic.

I don't mind Clinton, Carter and possibly Nixon, FDR and Kennedy. Most others have been shitty. The country is irreversably ruined now.

Actually if I do recall Andrew Jackson fired quite a lot of people because of their refusal to kill the central bank mostly, and other things such as the Indian extermination. While I vehemently disagree with the latter, the former was definitely something that was very immoral (not suggesting the killing of Native Americans was any less immoral, of course).

I do have mixed feelings about his presidency, but overall I say he kicked ass.

Man, I wish we had the courage of another Andrew Jackson again to kill off the cancerous leech known as the "Federal Reserve System". Where, oh, where can such a man be found?

Andrew Jackson didn't kill the Indians, he did something far worse.

I have looked up on Jackson. He killed the bank (good), and started Indian removal (bad). There are other things, but those two are most notable. What possibly could he had done worse?

You best be trolling nigger.

Killing the bank ruined the economy and dropped the US into a panic.

Indian Removal, which started under him, was basically a necessary step in expansion. Not to mention the fact that there was no actual link between Jackson and the brutal treatment of Indians. You can blame corrupt officials for that.

His biggest fuck-up was his hiring of political supporters into office. It's a cancer that still destroys the government to this day.

The cancer would have seeped even further if he had let the bank continue on. It was really bad then, I cannot fathom how deep this cancer has rooted itself in government today.

And there was a panic, but if scaled up and if happened today, wouldn't be as bad as the current crisis. It was caused because those behind the banking ponzi scheme were going to rightfully be kicked out. Of course what do they do? Contract the money supply like a child with a temper tantrum who can't have his way.

Don't change these.
