I can accept that an interventionist defence policy can be used by certain groups to justify imperialism, the reality though is that such groups usually aren't that powerful and it is a necessary evil because unfortunately isolationism does not stop people from whipping themselves into a frenzy of senseless hate against you.
The utilitarian part of me supports an aggressive neo-con foreign policy.
