He was part of the righteous cause hijacking brigade that swamped the civil rights movement with their fanatics in some lame attempt to start a revolution turning it into a communist shitstorm in the process and delaying popular support by about a decade. If you support true civil rights you should hate him.
As for the Chappaquiddick incident either he's a psycho or a coward, I'd say most likely the latter but I wouldn't suprised if it were the former.
