Yes, it's a bit late, but I'm starting this discussion thread.
As you (probably) know, the August 8th of the past year was the day when 44th Olympic Games started in Beijing, China. The same day, war in South Osetia started. Soldiers were killing people for two days, facing lack of resistance, before russians came. You probably seen this on the TV: "Russian tanks invaded Georgia", "Victims from the georgian side", "More than 1000 georgian people died". The world's most famous TV channels showed you only this. No words about South Osetia, isn't it strange?
I have just came back from SO, where my grandparents were living before they got killed. Killed by fucking georgians. I heard they tried to leave Tshenvali (South Osetia's capital), but vehicle exploded when tank shot it. Many other people that tried to escape were dead that day and during the war, thanks to georgians.
They put grenades in the cellars where people tried to hide. They shot children and their mothers with no mercy. They are not people, but fucking stupid monkeys with weapons.
But you did not heard about it, did you? You think that russians invaded georgia and russians killed thousands of people. You think that georgian towns were damaged during the war. About half year ago I met a man who didn't believed me and thought I'm a freak.
Tell me, WHY THIS SHIT HAPPENS? WHY do you believe everything that these shitsuckers show you on the TV? WHY do you not want to hear the truth?
I am here at least to tell you that georgia started fucking war, Abhaziya (country near to SO) helped south osetians, russian soldiers protected osetian people, USA and NATO helped georgia, CNN LIED, pic somehow related.
Everybody, please read at least previous paragraph, join the discussion and help bringing the truth to the masses.

Every side was the bad guy in this, Georgians won't give South Ossetia autonomy, South Ossetian "freedom fighters" used terrorism and the Russians haven't fought a real war in years and want any excuse to play with their toys. You're not kids on a playground, it doesn't matter "who started it", atrocities commited by one side don't justify atrocities commited by another.
The only people I support are those calling for authorities to get together around a table, express grievances, try to find out what happened and to negotiate.
South Ossetia wants independance.
Georgia doesn't want to lose territory.
Russia doesn't want to seem impotent.
All 3 need to face the fact that cooperation is preferable to remaining at this impass.
Georgia should give South Ossetia independance in civil government while remaining part of the Georgian central state.
Russia should do the same for North Ossetia.

I don't agree with many of the things Putin and Medvedev have been doing, but I actually think Russia is right in Georgia, Chechnya and Dagestan. I wish we (the US) would stay out of it. It's like if Russia were trying to interfere in Mexico or Colombia.

Clashes and shelling between the Georgian and Ossetian forces in early August led to the deaths of six Ossetians and five Georgians; each side accused the other of opening fire first, in what was the worst violence in years. During the week the fighting intensified. On 3 August, the Russian foreign ministry warned that an extensive military conflict was about to erupt. According to a Spiegel article, officials in European governments and intelligence agencies assumed that the warning concerned Saakashvili's plans for an invasion of South Ossetia, plans which had been completed earlier. The Ossetians didn't show up — a day before, the South Ossetian side refused to participate in bilateral talks, demanding a JCC session (consisting of Georgia, Russia, North and South Ossetia) instead, but Tbilisi had withdrawn from the JCC in March, demanding the format include also the EU, the OSCE and the Provisional Administrative Entity of South Ossetia. Yakobashvili confirmed that Tskhinvali was already largely evacuated: "Nobody was in the streets — no cars, no people". He met with the Russian commander of the Joint Peacekeeping Force (JPKF), General Marat Kulakhmetov, (ALSO INTERESTING:) who stated that the Russian peacekeepers cannot stop Ossetian attacks and advised the Georgians to declare a ceasefire.

I find it hilarious how everybody blames the war on the US saying it gave George the green light for an attack but in the end pussied out. Seriously, how can anyone believe this shit? The entire thing was staged by the Russians ffs. Tell me, where does a landlocked Region with the only neighbors being Russia and its enemy Georgia gets heavy weapons like mortars and rpgs from? No, they couldn't have produced their own due to lack of a metal industry and chemical industry. THERE'S NO INDUSTRY WHATSOEVER IN SOUTH OSSETIA AND THEY CAN'T PRODUCE ANYTHING OF VALUE EVEN IF THEY WANTED TO.
So, where did the Mig29 come from that shot down the Georgian UAV just months before the war?
