Not that I agree with Warren or his anti-gay views, but this is another display of Obama's mastery of political theater.
Hmm, so he's broiled in a controversy surrounding a corrupt governor AND he needs to prove he has bipartisan chops. So he picks a semi-controversial (the guy isn't exactly Pat Robertson) conservative pastor. This causes slight controversy, dragging the conversation away from Blago-gate. It also forces conservatives to defend Obama, endearing them to him and showing the center he's above partisan politics. No democrat should worry about offending the gay community. What, are gay people going to start supporting Republicans now? Plus, the invocation pastor is a purely symbolic position, so it even allows him to defend it. Its genius.
