Why does it feel like that if people would have just voted No on Prop 8, we wouldn't be having all of this controversy. It's not like we were taking away the church's right to marry same sex couples. Its not bullshit.  The point of having marriage man-woman is that it is the foundation upon which the future growth of the human species continues.  The reason we had marriage to begin with has a relation to the married people having children.  Allowing older folks to re-marry also serves a societal function of allowing older people to help care for each other.  Thus, to conclude, civil unions make sense but "gay marriage" does not.
