Banishing the 2nd amendment to the pages of history is a MUST.
Well, that's your right, and the U.S. Constitution has a well-defined procedure for doing that.

THE PROBLEM IS that your class of anti-gun screamer doesn't want to make that sort of effort.  You PREFER to perform unconstitutional acts like city-wide gun bans and the like.

When are you going to write a letter to your Congressman to get the process started for amending the U.S. Constitution to cancel the Second Amendment?  I mean, if you're not doing THAT, then you're just talking out your stupid Liberal fuckass.

I completely agree on this. While I voted Obama and usually vote Democrat, I support the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. I do believe that if a criminal comes into my house I have the right to shoot to disable, or if necessary, kill to defend myself or my Family.

It's basically the biggest thing that had me in disagreement with Obama, but it wasn't enough to make me swing over to the other party.

If you guys feel this passionate about it, (As I do) write letters to your Democratic senators and when He's inaugurated, President-Elect Barack Obama about how you believe your Second Amendment rights should be protected.

I know you guys will say it won't make much a difference, but every little bit helps.

How is that Amendment outdated? Law abiding citizens should have every right to own a weapon in their homes without question. While I do agree that some gun laws try to restrict criminals from obtaining them, (And rightly so) those same laws should not restrict responsible gun and weapon owners.

If any Constitutional Amendment is outdated it's the Third Amendment!

Writing letters to Obama begging him to respect your 2nd amendment rights would be like writing letters to Sarah Brady to do same were she elected president.  It won't do shit.  Obama has zero respect for the 2nd amendment and thought the D.C. handgun ban was constitutional and supported it prior to the Supreme Court saying he was wrong.

That said, you can't just sit by and do nothing.  Yes I'm going to write the letters.  But I'm just saying its stupid to vote for Obama and then expect to be able to just write him some letters and get him to put aside his gun control agenda since you told him it isn't to your interest.  Obama is anti-gun, and we now have an anti-gun president - the most rabidly anti-gun president in US History.  My only hope is that he and the congress will be too busy with other shit to pass any new sweeping gun bans or restrictions on 2nd amendment rights, and hope that those aging judges on the Supreme Court can hang in there another 4 years until we (hopefully) get a republican president who will appoint judges who will protect our rights instead of the kind of "evolving constitution" shithead judges Obama wants to appoint.

Right, and I agree with you. Thankfully everything does balance out since the Judges were appointed by different presidents like Regan, George Bush Senior, Clinton, George Bush Junior. I think there is one that's still there that was appointed by Jimmy Carter no?

Putting that aside, I don't understand why it became part of the "liberal" platform to ban guns and be anti-gun. It doesn't seem so "liberal" to me to restrict guns to citizens. This is the only thing that actually pisses me off about voting Democrat.

Because modern liberals are not the same as classical liberals.  They have abandoned the principles of small government and individual liberty that our founders supported and have embraced new values - equality and big government.  (And when I say equality, I don't mean equality of opportunity or equality under the law, I mean "equality of result" - its a very different concept.)

here's a better argument for the 2nd amendment. GUNS ALREADY SATURATE THE AMERICAN MARKET. how do you plan to get rid of them all?
wave your magic dildo?

you cant whine and bitch about the 2nd amendment being useless in modern days without coming up with a working way to get rid of the guns already here.
the fact is that you have a better chance of rounding up all the people who own guns and killing them than getting their all the guns in the US. and because you cant even hope to find and remove the guns in US, you therefore face the consequences of leaving only hardened criminals with access (albeit illegal access) to guns if you attempt to ban them.
what do criminals care about getting a few dozen extra years in prison for having a gun illegally if they want to rob, kill, or rape someone? sure, add another 20 years on top of his LIFE SENTANCE for murder, that'll keep the criminals from wanting to touch a gun.

American constitution is the word of god and shouldn't be touched. We need to revert to 18th century standards. I know these things, trust me.

The Second Amendment is in place in case they ignore the others.

i don't know anything about the us constitution but since you're talking about amendments here.. can't they make an amendment that negates all the previous ones?

yes

Name: Anonymous 2008-11-11 19:40

yes, but it would be unconstitutional and therefore illegal.

Name: Anonymous 2008-11-16 12:27

There is no reason at all why citizens should have guns. Cry more.

Name: Anonymous 2008-11-16 19:57

if everyone had no guns,  or everyone had a gun id be happy.

Liberals don't care about the constitution.  If they really liked the constitution, they wouldn't be trying to "evolve" it into something it wasn't, claiming its a "living document."  They wouldn't be claiming there are rights in the constitution that don't exist (abortion, Roe vs Wade) while simultaneously claiming that rights that clearly are present (such as the Second Amendment) don't exist.

Name: Anonymous 2008-11-20 2:11

The constitution isn't a "living document," it is a "legal document."  Those laws have specific and precise meanings, and you don't need to be a lawyer to see that the 2nd Amendment was meant to protect a right of the general public to own guns.
