yeah, that's smart, having a multi-billionaire pay the same taxes with some poor... oh wait, they don't already

Sure thing. Now cut government spending by about 90% to make up for the lack of revenue such a plan would cause.

Supposedly $30,000 per person is the amount needed for every American to pay off the national debt. So it's not about regular income tax, it's more like being an indentured servant who owes $30,000 and has to pay it off to gain personal freedom. I can see this working in the certain communities, such as communities of agricultural workers at a certain poverty level, who could work on some sort of collective agricultural endeavor overseen by the owner of the property, who would purchase and employ these workers for harvesting cash crops to help improve trade. You could even hire workers based on physical characteristics best suited for long hours in the sun, such as well adapted skin that is resistant to sunburn.
I say we lobby congress and put this into action.

That sounds a bit racist, we'd need affirmative action schemes to ensure ethnic minority groups are more likely to be given these jobs.

Government spending should be cut by a lot anyway. There's too much waste as it is.

I think people who make less than 30,000 a year will be saddened by this
How about, since the top 10% of earners pay 85% of the taxes, we just abolish taxes on the bottom 90% of taxpayers? Only a 15% reduction in tax revenue, which itself only makes up 40% of total federal income, and it'd no doubt give the economy a kick in the ass.

If the rich were properly taxed, we wouldn't have butthurt kids turning libertarian so they don't wouldn't pay taxes. Irony is, the same rich people who aren't paying taxes now would profit even more that way.

Lower taxes ONLY give the government a desire for HIGHER TAXES. To that end, they spend all the money they get, then borrow a LOT more, and then whine and cry to the dipshit public ... who eventually allow votes for more taxes. WORKS EVERY TIME -- until the crash of the Empire.
The key is not a particular condition of taxation. The key is LESS GOVERNMENT.

"Lower taxes ONLY give the government a desire for HIGHER TAXES."
So you are trying to say there are more factors? Well where did I deny that there were other factors? That's something you kind of bring into a conversation. Of course I didn't mean that tax rate was the only factor. Yes we should work on all fronts to reduce taxes, including aiming to reduce the size of the government.
It would be much better though if things were logically induced from raw facts up, that is the basis for all valid policy making.
>>17 Yes we should work on all fronts to reduce taxes, including aiming to reduce the size of the government. Concur. I didn't mean to imply that we should only do one or the other.

My family of four makes only $20,000 every year and we manage to live in a 3 bedroom house, get internet, food, and some personal items.

"The key is LESS GOVERNMENT." implies otherwise. You should have said "LESS GOVERNMENT is important", or something to that manner.

whenever ANY POLITICIAN talks about less government, they mean cut out the parts of government that help out poor people. the government could do a huge amount merely by redirecting its resources towards accomplishing what should be its primary objective, to create a healthy society by supporting those who otherwise lead shitty shitty lives.

Whenever ANY POLITICIAN talks about more government, they mean create more loop holes and regulations that allow them to circumvent competition. The government could do a huge amount merely by allowing market forces to accomplish what are it's primary objective, to create a thriving economy by employing meritocratic principles.

I'm really getting sick of you underage kids copying my cruise-controlled induced awesomeness. The 2+2 repartee should be used only when the opponent is being retarded about something specific, but in this case the retardation is general. I'll grade it a 4/10 - try again.
