Americans can't locate the US in a World Map

Recent polls have shown that a fifth of the Americans can't locate the U.S. in a World Map. Why is this so?

I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps, and I believe that our education, like such as South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should -- our education over here in the US should help the US -- or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children.

Or maybe it's because that a fifth of the Americans are kids.
Anyway, it's the same as everywhere.
German teenagers don't know much about geography either since it's somewhat unapplicable.
Without a drivers license or simply the ability to travel by yourself greopraphy is of little to no use to you.

Who needs to know anything?

1) I'm American and can locate the U.S., together with every country in the world on a World Map.
2) Eurofags cannot locate American states on a U.S. or World Map (in case, of course, they are not written on the map) At least 99.9% of them can't. Maybe even 100%, but that'd be pushing it.
3) There are at least 100 times more Americans who can locate all European countries on a World map than eurofags who can locate half our states.

By the way, just out of curiosity, if I'd ask you to locate the U.S. on the map, would you sincerely point out the federal district, or just the huuuuuuuge area that's so easy for eurofags to find? Because only the former answer would be technically correct.
