Pornography and Censorship

Opinions about pornography have become slightly more conservative over the past 20 years. Currently 41% agree that "nude magazines and X-rated movies provide harmless entertainment for those who enjoy it": 53% disagree with the statement. The number saying such material is harmless has fluctuated, declining from 48% in 1987 to 41% in 1990 and then varying no more than four percentage points thereafter. However, a new version of the question that refers to pornography on the internet -- asked for the first time this year -- finds greater public concern: 70% disagree with the statement that "nude pictures and X-rated videos on the internet provide harmless entertainment for those who enjoy it."

So, do you think this could be a threat to any internet pornography out there?

A 2 billion dollar a year industry is not going to be in any  trouble because a bunch of fags don't like it.  $$$$ > the publics opinion.

Oversimplification. See the UK's ban on extreme pornography.

While the public opinion in and of itself won't threat internet pornography, authorities can use it to pass popular anti-porn laws to gain easy votes.

porn kicks ass, censorship sucks.  censorship leads to things like tentacle rape...  ok, bad example.  it leads to things like blurred out naughty parts, which fucking ruins porn for me.  and then the jack booted brown shirted thugs come in and take ALL your fucking porn.  all your blowjob porn too!  and if they take the free internet porn.... revolution will come!

Thing's such as sex or porn that hurt people only hurt people because you give them a victimization mentality.

Porn doesn't actually hurt anyone, you just think it does.

Although violence is different.

honestly, I see a backlash coming. if you look at the magazine stands, nearly every mag has a half naked chick or a story on sex boldly featured. its reaching saturation.

americans are getting paranoid, what with war on the rise in foreign countries, rising teen sexuality and violence and political ineptitude. they will start looking for scapegoats and the entertainment industry's shitty sense of morality is a very easy target.

I like porn. I love looking at beautiful women enjoying themselves, but sick fucks like Max Hardcore and the constant stream of political sex scandals and crude shit in men's magazines are going to make life really hard

Restricting access to porn would benefit and empower women by preventing many in society from viewing them as objects or sluts.

All those people that said they think it's harmful go home and fap at night after they think their families are asleep. (plus the employment opportunities make it a leading industry- get rid of or restrict internet porn, even in just the US, and a LOT of people are out of work) porn is safe.

You can't restrict access to porn. This is the internet!

Don't change these.
