Alamo!

Name: Anonymous 2007-10-24 4:36

Hey, I'm writing a paper on the Alamo, can I get some intelligent response to my thesis?

>>The events that occurred during the fall of the Alamo unfolded, with no withdrawal from the beginning to the end it was destined to be so the way it was, although the historical representation of such events have mutated throughout time, the events occurred in a militant manner, and the depicted character of such people involved tends to warp the reality of the situation completely.

what thesis?  that's just a list of facts with no firm conclusion.

The conclusion is that the events that happened were destined to be the way that they were, and that the portrayal of the people involved have warped the reality of it...

that's stupid but i lack the words to describe in which way

duh.  the mexicans were simply trying to get their land back from the texans, who were ex-cons, rapists and murderers.

this happens with all history.. look what lincoln said to a group black people in the white house:

"Perhaps you have long been free, or all your lives. Your race are suffering, in my judgment, the greatest wrong inflicted on any people. But even when you cease to be slaves, you are yet far removed from being placed on an equality with the white race. You are cut off from many of the advantages which the other race enjoy. The aspiration of men is to enjoy equality with the best when free, but on this broad continent, not a single man of your race is made the equal of a single man of ours. Go where you are treated the best, and the ban is still upon you.

I do not propose to discuss this, but to present it as a fact with which we have to deal. I cannot alter it if I would. It is a fact, about which we all think and feel alike, I and you. We look to our condition, owing to the existence of the two races on this continent. I need not recount to you the effects upon white men, growing out of the institution of Slavery. I believe in its general evil effects on the white race. See our present condition---the country engaged in war!---our white men cutting one another's throats, none knowing how far it will extend; and then consider what we know to be the truth. But for your race among us there could not be war, although many men engaged on either side do not care for you one way or the other. Nevertheless, I repeat, without the institution of Slavery and the colored race as a basis, the war could not have an existence. "

Apologetic and unrealistic. The Mexicans were no angels either. The difference being the Americans at least had the foundations for a representative democracy and put an end to racism whilst Mexico is still as racist as it ever was. Many at the Alamo were as Mexican as they were American, but they sided with the Americans because their principles meant they were the lesser of 2 evils and their children would not have to live under tyranny.

I firmly believe the texas revolution was a land grab for both Sam Houston and Andrew Jackson.  You know it well: Manifest Destiny.  The truth is that it was far underway as soon as British descendants came in contact with spanish colonialism.  A HUGE factore was definately the Mexican centralist point of view and tyranny of Santa Anna, but there is no doubt that United States' believed rights and pride were both on the line as well.

I never said it was right, just that it was practical. If you only ever supported people who were the epitome of moral righteousness you would have to be a hermit living in the hills since no one is perfect. Therefore choosing the lesser of 2 evils if it is for the greater good is ethical.

Aztlan is on the Mexican government's payroll and it's purpose is to obtain special benefits for Mexicans and Mexico from it's comparatively ultra-powerful neighbour. Their rights to south west america have as much logic as a Jew's rights to a Palestinian family's home or Hitler's right to annex Poland, it is obviously a shitty ideology used to turn dumb Mexishits into extremists to serve their purposes.

Everyone forgot the Alamo.

Although contradicting what seemed to be a reliable source, the Alamo was built without a basement.

Don't change these.
