People found a million reasons to fight before global warming, and they will continue afterward. The Peace Prize should have a more direct connection to working out actual conflicts as opposed to using blatant, outright lies like claiming a 20 foot sea rise soon (as opposed to the 18in-3foot projection by co-winner IPCC in 100 years) in order stop wars in the future that cannot possibly be foreseen.

The Nobel Peace Prize has become a joke. Yasser Arafat? Kofi Annan? Jimmy Carter? And now Al Gore?
ok so he fudged the facts.... but i don't see your average joe willing to waste less energy if he knew the seas will only rise 18 inches. Al Gore did it to create impact. Not everybody has a science major u know?

Like him or not, he has turned his efforts to an important cause It's interesting about the Nobel Peace Prize -- unlike the quirky and PC-conscious prize for Literature, or the quasi-Nobel* "medal" in economics -- that its list of winners holds up very, very well under historical scrutiny.

If Greenland's icecap does largely melt away -- as it seems to be starting to do -- the seas will rise a whole lot more than 18 inches. Try 8 feet, bunky! Gore's not wrong in the larger view of the matter. Anyone who believes differently is just not basing their decision upon facts and figures.
Now, back to the Conservatives BAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWing about Gore's success.

I think George Bush has proved definitively that to be president, you don’t need to care about science, literature or peace.

20 foot sea rise is absurd, you would need to melt one of the moons of jupiter to achieve that.

It's all well and good that Al Gore has brought more attention to the subject of global warming, but he's such a douche bag. His whole campaign to save the world reeks of him trying to make up for losing the election.
The US geological survey gives these figures: The Greenland ice cap with its volume of 630,000 cubic miles, if melted could yield enough water to maintain the Mississippi river for over 4,700 years. Thats 2,600,000 km3 which would equate to a sea level rise potential of 6.5 m of about 20 feet.
also the moons around jupiter really aren't that big

Global warming activists are fucking stupid. Even if we got rid of all industry (unless it was green-industry), we would not only still have global warming due to livestock emissions (roughly 20% of all emissions), but the economy would be pretty much dead or destroyed on top of it. I'd rather have a vibrant economy with some minor warming than economic doomsday and no warming.

Yeah, apparently the best way to reduce green house gases is to stop farming live stock, i.e. everyone become vegetarian. I'm sure Al knows this but he doesn't seem to want to change his own lifestyle to save the Earth. But he'll gladly tell everyone else to conserve and adjust their ways of living.

dutch engineers/architects have come up with a mutli-platform livestock 'tower' in which you can keep animals and retain emissions.

Too bad the connection global warming has with war is sketchy at best, revealing the politically motivated bullshit behind their decision.

First award I've heard of that is awarded for POTENTIAL success rather than ACTUAL success.
you fucking moron. Livestock is part of a CLOSED CARBON CYCLE! Livestock may release emissions, but the total amount of CO2 will always be less than what was removed by the plants that they ate. In other words-Livestock act as a carbon SINK.
yes, it eventually turns into CO2, but its still true that, overall, the plants eaten by the cattle remove more carbon from the air than what was produced. In other words, Cattle are a zero emissions industry.

The committee is appointed by the Norwegian parliament.
All members were former politicians and most of those guys are commies.
The Nobel Peace Prize is just the Norwegian way of saying "we don't liek ur capitalist politics LOL!"
