Al Gore loves to tell other people how to live their lives.  It is much easier for him to tell other people to change their lifestyles and live according to what he thinks is proper and correct than to make these changes in his own life first.

"left" and "right" is very much an issue where you live. in northern europe we think of US as a extreem right wing and  a right wing. there is no "left" to talk about in US. not even close to socialism or anything that all ppl should try to help building a society. so we should laugh if you said your media was "leftwinged" or even close to the left. all "puplic" media are rightwinged in the US.
