Saddam ruled with an iron fist and killed many extremist rebels including Kurds; that's how he kept the country together. Now since he is gone the country is in a state of civil war between Sunni and Shi'ite factions. Some estimates for Iraqi deaths as a result of the war are as high at 670,000. Even the lowest death tole estimates are way in excess of the amount of people killed by Saddam. There is no moral case for the war, and more importantly there is no case for it being in America's interests.
