Who needs Israel?

Now that the cold war is over, Israel has become a strategic liability for the United States.  But no aspiring politician is going to say so in public or even raise the possibility because the pro-Israel lobby is so powerful.

If only the international atomic inspection regime could take a sample of Israel's plutonium and uranium, we'd find out where they got it all.  We'd also be able to find out sources on the basis of the design of their triggering mechanisms and so on.

Of course, as has been long speculated, that would reveal that their sources are probably Oak Ridge and other US civilian and military nuclear sources, primarily from the 1950s and 1960s.  Jews have been caught with their hands in the US nuclear cookie jar before.  But then all that would strain the public myth that Israel is peaceful and an ally of the US.
