As a movie, Pathfinder is not superb. It is mediocre at best. Whatever you call it, the movie promotes a racist view. The three main points are these:
1. Nordic (and also, by proxy, Germanic and Anglo-Saxon) peoples are cruel, torturous and seem to enjoy nothing in life but massacre.
2. That Native Americans (heretoafter referred to as "Amerindians" or "Indians" or "Natives" or "Braves" or "Reds" or, perhaps, even "Kiowas") lived a purely communal lifestyle free from infighting and strife.
3. That indigenous peoples fighting for their own way of life always defeat a foreign invader.
First. Despite their cool gear, runes and long-boats, the Norsemen are presented as ignorant, violent and so ultra-violent that rape isn't an objective. Since when, in the history of conquest, has rape been cast aside for the appeasement of Total-Violence? Despite hailing from Scandinavia or, at least, Iceland, they are portrayed as knowing little about combat in upper longitudes. Or latitudes? This movie blatantly ignores the Nordic feats of navigation and trade: such as navigating the Volga through the lands of the Rus to reach the rich, bounty-laden lands of the Tigris and Euphrates valley. Clearly, this movie views Nordics (and Germans and Anglo-Saxons) as primitive, demonic characters.
Second. Natives are portrayed as peaceful and idyllic. They do not make war. They are simply willing to defend themselves. In essence, the Algonquin and Abanake and Roger's Rangers never existed -- and quite right, considering the historicity of Roger's racial attacks. Anyone who loves peace will see that violence was never visited from one Indian tribe to another. If it was, it was a result of the Whites -- the French propagating Huron hegemony against Mohawk subservience to the British Crown. And fuck the Ottawa, Winnebago, Kiowa, Apache Seminole, Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Comanche, Nez Pierce, Lakota, Dakota, Sioux, Black Feet, and all the other nations and tribes! Yes, the Indians were the most peaceful, serene peoples on the earth at the time. And still are, to this day.
Finally. True to Jane Fonda form, this movie promotes the idea that a guerrilla effort can defeat hugely numerical and technological superiority. Despite chain-mail and breast-plates, Nordics are easily defeated by stone and wooden weapons. The Liberal war-machine seeks to undermine Germanic/Nordic/Anglo-Saxon suzerainty by potraying our peoples as stupid and unable to comprehend a guerrilla campaign.
