In theory, lowering taxes would increase profits thereby increasing margins thereby lowering prices. This theory demands perfect competition, something we all should know is as real as narnia and middle earth. More often than not, increased profits goes to executive bonuses and dividends and thereby disappears from the company into the pockets of the owners and the price lowering effect is clearly absent. So in the end for the average consumer he has the same prices on products and more expensive services that earlier were paid through taxes, ie a decrease in standard of living.
