When 2 billion Chinese and Indians can start affording cars, decent houses and proper food OH FUCK WE'RE GONNA GET RAPED. The developing world is what we've really got to worry about, and it's inevitable.

It's already been shown that the problems in Africa can't be solved just by throwing money at them. Charity won't solve anything, Africans and third-worlders in general need to build up their economies in order to survive. The recent Chinese investments in Africa are possibly their best hope for the future.

Instead of giving money to scammers for "carbon credits" to plant trees (and chop them down afterwards) we should be treating this as a scientific problem, and invest massive amounts in green technology, nuclear and material sciences to treat solving AGW as a new space-race.

That way we get fantastic new technologies to reduce environmental impact and will no doubt lead to further scientific breakthroughs that will help the entire world, not just the US. Even if AGW doesn't work out being as bad as we first thought, we're still well ahead and can fix other forms of pollution.

Hard science beats the shit out of token political gestures like carbon trading and shitty concerts.
