hay guys, do you think that humans act generally irrational or rational?

Name: Anonymous 2007-06-14 15:43 ID:IssYjO+1

I think both irrationality and rationality are labels humans have defined and placed on one another when in reality, every individual seems to do whatever they prefer to do and "rationalize" it through any means and thus irrationality does not exist.

An example I could explain to you would be a suicide bomber. Westerners would look at that and claim irrationality, when in reality the suicide bomber rationalized that his/her family would be taken care of by the Islamic Political movement for their actions and live better lives, they also rationalize through their belief that their actions will be rewarded by Allah.

So are humans rational or irrational? These are just labels humans have drawn false lines, defined and placed on people.

All people rationalize, even "madmen" from their perspective.

I just wanted to add to my example,

The suicide bomber also "rationalizes" the best way to kill as many people as he or she can, even though they're doing something which is terminating their own life, which is something those who value life would find "irrational."

I'll count that as rational.
Oh yeah, please post the ideology which would describe your political views best.

I'm a registered Green, but the views I expressed in the post have really nothing to do with Green Politics.

I don't like to think that any answer I have is the only answer, nor anyone else's answer to be the end-all-be-all of everything, and because of this I don't like saying it, but I'm a Marxist and have done extensive reading on Marxist Theory besides thinking the usual Joe Six Pack "MARXISUM MEENS EVARY1 IS EQUAL!"

All I can tell you is become a critical thinker. Don't accept anything as gospel, whether it be something you'd be inclined to agree with, and don't discount opinions because they're something you'd not want to hear.

Become a critical thinker, and question your own beliefs.

Funny story: I did that and came to the conclusion that Marxism sucks ass.
Anyhow, you're done here. NEXT.

I'd have to say that if there is any political view that I stem towards, then it would be the same as this guy.

It's a shame, really, that the name of marxism was spoiled by communist Russia and the like.

It wasn't really spoiled, it was just side-stepped. If Trotsky were to have been given power after Lenin the whole 20th Century would have been different.

If you're not willing to challenge how you view things and change perspectives you're living a very boring white/black life.

Don't assume that he didn't challenge his beliefs. Maybe he did, but really did find that marxism it didn't suit him. It's all a matter of taste, in the end.

Any credibility you earned with the first post is now lost due to being a trolling fag.
Good job there.

GTFO

How comes that you idiots don't understand what I requested to post in this thread?

Name: Anonymous 2007-06-14 16:40 ID:IssYjO+1

>>9

I'm not making the assumption he/she didn't, but I'm inclined to say there's much more to describing something other than it "sucking ass." I disagree with many things, but in disagreement I try to explain why I disagree.

>>10
Trolling is a rewarding past time because it develops your mind into adopting different ideologies and playing with people's minds as to why what they think is wrong or what you think is right. You develop argumentative skills when you're able to effectively argue against what you agree with wholeheartedly.

If you mean the question that was posted in >>1, then that already got a pretty conclusive answer in >>2, if you mean the request posted in >>4, then I fail to see how >>7 failed to answer that request.

Holy shit, and you needed only THREE posts to state that you agree with the view in >>2.

Don't change these.
