What Really Divides Us?

The left argues that stringent federal laws are needed to combat racism, always implying of course that southern states are full of bigoted rednecks who would oppress minorities if not for the watchful eye of Washington. They ignore, however, the incredible divisiveness created by their collectivist big-government policies.

Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the mindset that views humans only as members of groups and never as individuals. Racists believe that all individual who share superficial physical characteristics are alike; as collectivists, racists think only in terms of groups. By encouraging Americans to adopt a group mentality, the advocates of so-called "diversity" actually perpetuate racism. Their intense focus on race is inherently racist, because it views individuals only as members of racial groups.

Conservatives and libertarians should fight back and challenge the myth that collectivist liberals care more about racism. Modern liberalism, however well intentioned, is a byproduct of the same collectivist thinking that characterizes racism. The continued insistence on group thinking only inflames racial tensions.

The true antidote to racism is liberty. Liberty means having a limited, constitutional government devoted to the protection of individual rights rather than group claims. Liberty means free-market capitalism, which rewards individual achievement and competence, not skin color, gender, or ethnicity. In a free market, businesses that discriminate lose customers, goodwill, and valuable employees – while rational businesses flourish by choosing the most qualified employees and selling to all willing buyers. More importantly, in a free society every citizen gains a sense of himself as an individual, rather than developing a group or victim mentality. This leads to a sense of individual responsibility and personal pride, making skin color irrelevant. Rather than looking to government to correct what is essentially a sin of the heart, we should understand that reducing racism requires a shift from group thinking to an emphasis on individualism.

You know, France did away with the race question altogether by proclaiming that there was no race in the eyes of the government.  Seriously, they didn't even record race figures in the census. 

Of course, what this actually meant was that individual racism was unacknowledged and unchecked by the government.  Current situation - car burnings and riots in Paris on a regular basis, with a whole lot of excluded sons of Algerians ready to explode. 

The trouble with racism is that it confuses race with culture.  The two are different, and need to be separately addressed.  But you'll never fix cultural problems if some idiot's always tying them to a physical feature.  Our brains don't come in different colours.

Before Conservatives and Libertarians go fighting against other people, they should go fight poverty and lack of education in the red states and rural areas that they represent. Otherwise, they will continue leeching federal money.

i agree i belive that if the goverment would see people as indivguals then the most of the people would forget about race but there are still extremes out there and unless we remove them and give their childre away then it will never work.  also i am an advacit for smaller goverment it was desind to keep people in line not watch their every move.

Not all races have the same potential to achieve in a meritocratic society. I am in favor of a liberal democracy but if you somehow think it would make race relations better you are wrong.

The current system gives minorities greater privileges than they would have in a fully laissez faire, color blind society. Most people still don’t accept the fact that blacks and Hispanics simply lack the genetic intelligence to achieve on the level of whites or Jews. I don't really want to turn this thread into a debate about this fact, seriously, go read The Bell Curve. Anyway, If were to live in a truly color blind society; racial discrimination laws were abolished and we had a laissez faire free market, then all we would see is blacks and Hispanics sinking further economically and socially, creating even greater social tension and accusations of racism. In fact most firms and universities are desperate to take on blacks and Hispanics to show how "diverse" they are and meet quotas. The problem is the lack of talent they find. Still, they will take a less qualified minority person for the mentioned reasons. In reality, the most dominant force of racism in the US today is anti-white.
