Singing the National Anthem in school

I'd be interested in knowing if there are schools that make (or used to make) students sing the national anthem. Please specify which country you're from.

Here in Canada I've never had to, but one of my high school teachers said he'd worked in a part of the country where they sang the national anthem every morning and that they had a portrait of the Queen to sing to in the back of the class. That would have been in the 80's. So obviously I'm interested in knowing if that was true or if he was embellishing a little.

My apologies if this is not strictly political but I thought this board fit best.

Years ago we did when in primary school (grades 1 to 6) but even then we only sang the 1st verse.

It's great to appreciate your community, land and culture, but people get confused between their Country and the Nation-State.

I live in southwestern Ontario and they didn't force us sing or face a portrait or flag (grew up in the 80's). The anthem played every morning though. We always stood during the anthem in elementary school (I don't recall anyone doing otherwise), but not in high school.
I think a rural school would just be more likely get away with queen-worship. Since Thatcher was PM of the UK and Mulroney was PM of Canada, a conservative area might let this slide.

denmark. we never had to sign the national anthem in school. i think they tried to teach it to us though, but i didn't really listen to i don't know it. *shrugs* we did have some sort of meeting every wednesday where we all pretended to sign some other random songs though.

I went to a semi-private french immersion school in canada. Every morning they had someone sing the anthem over the PA system. It being a french immersion school, even verses were english and odd verses were in french.
