Pelosi isn't guilty of anything except self-promotion and hyperbole as to the importance of her visit.  Normal politician stuff.  The news outlets merely latch on to the high profile visit (ignoring entirely the Republican delegation's visit: http://thinkprogress.org/2007/04/05/breaking-republican-congressman-darrell-issa-currently-in-syria-for-talks/) in their usual attempt to garner ratings.

And Pelosi claimed in the soundbyte that she delivered a message of peace.  So basically she exaggerated to make it sound as though she were doing something important in that cute head-scarf of hers.  The media just ran with it, as they always do.
